Where we work

We carry out our activities in the municipality of Cercado and in the municipality of Sacaba (the Pacata Alta area), in the department of Cochabamba, Plurinational State of Bolivia.

Why these areas

Our territorial focus responds to objective, official and verifiable indicators of poverty and gender-based violence that place Cochabamba among the departments with the greatest social vulnerability in the country.

  • 44.3%

Total poverty in the department of Cochabamba

An increase of 8.2 percentage points on the previous year, approaching the figure for the department of La Paz (51.7%). Source: INE, Household Survey 2025.

  • 16.7%

    Extreme poverty nationwide in 2025

Up from 12.8% in 2024, roughly 1.9 million people. Source: INE, Household Survey 2025.

  • 88 of 100

Separated, divorced or widowed women aged 15 and over who reported violence from a former partner

Of these, 61.2% identified economic violence specifically (control of or restricted access to resources, income or employment), as well as psychological (81.2%), physical (68.2%) and sexual violence (48.2%). Source: INE, Survey on the Prevalence and Characteristics of Violence against Women.

  • ~42%

Share of femicides nationwide concentrated in Cochabamba in early 2025

The highest proportion among the country's nine departments. Source: Diario Opinión, 4 March 2025, based on official sources.

These figures, from official and verifiable sources, support the direct relationship between a woman's lack of income of her own and her exposure to gender-based violence in our department. That relationship underpins our approach: generating income of one's own as a mechanism for preventing violence within the family.
